Nathan J. Michel

OSWEGO – Nathan J. Michel, aged 60 years, died Sunday, January 14, 2024, at University Hospital, after a short illness.  He was the son of the late Joseph A. and Cecilia (Foley) Siembor.

Nate graduated from SUNY Oswego with a BA in History/Museum Studies and from Providence College, Providence, RI with an MA in History.  He was a former curatorial assistant for the Oswego County Historical Society, sole proprietor of Historical Research Services, and worked for 17 years as the secretary/office manager for local Lutheran and Methodist Churches.

Nate was funny, smart, brave, and curious about all things and people. He was extremely well-read and could hold conversations about anything from the silly to the profound.  He was a former 18th-century reenactor who researched his kit and costume meticulously and hand sewed everything.

Surviving are his adoring wife of 44 years, Patricia, his siblings Cecilia (Brian) McLaughlin of Liverpool, James (Tonya) Siembor of Akron, OH, Nancy Brown of Ithaca, Thomas (Margie) Siembor of Fairport, as well as his beloved nephew and niece Philip and Robin McLaughlin, who helped Nate over many rough waters.  Also surviving are nephews William (Nicole) McLaughlin, David Siembor, Kevin Siembor, and nieces Frida Brown and Celia Brown, and great-nephew Cullen McLaughlin.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Monday, January 22, 2024, from 1-3 pm with a service to follow, at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 West Albany Street. Oswego.  Donations may be made in Nate’s name to the Central New York Food Bank.
