Raymond E. Woods

Raymond E. Woods,

OSWEGO – Raymond E. Woods, 95, passed away on June 4, 2024, in Albany.  Born in Oswego to the late Frank and Mary (Bartholomew) Woods, he grew up there and attended St. Paul’s Academy and Oswego High School.

Raymond served proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict, later worked at Raby’s Ace Home Center as a warehouse foreman, and was a carpet and tile installer before retiring.

He married Ann Hrobak of Montville, NJ in 1985. They resided in Oswego for most of their lives together before moving to Glenmont, NY. Shortly after, Ray went to the Teresian House, where he received great care.

Raymond was a fantastic woodworker and did home improvements including kitchens and built birdhouses and toys for children in the family.

He enjoyed the Fortnightly Club, where he remodeled the club with many thanks from the members and guests. In addition, he was always there for his family and friends and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Raymond was predeceased by eight brothers, George, Joseph, Robert, Francis, James, Laurence, Thomas, and John; and four sisters, Gwendolyn Pociask, Helen Sorzickas, Marguerite Driscoll, and Rosemary Driscoll.

Surviving are his wife, Ann, of 39 years; and his two stepdaughters, Diane Stein and husband Art of Glenmont, NY, and Gail McNaughton and her children, Renee and Greg of Boonton, NJ; his sister, Ann Butera of Middlesex, NJ; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 1 pm on Friday, November 8, 2024, at St. Peter Cemetery, where Father Richard Morisette will preside over the committal service.  Military Honors will be rendered by members of the United States Army.  A complete obituary will appear soon.

Arrangements are under the caring guidance of Nelson Funeral Home.
