OSWEGO – Stephanie J. Mezzatesta, 77, of Oswego, passed away on August 27, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on February 25, 1949, in Syracuse, Stephanie was the daughter of the late Stephen and Rose (Spadaro) Mezzatesta. She graduated from Mexico High School and continued her education by taking many college courses throughout the years.
Stephanie grew up working alongside her sister, Maria, in their parents’ restaurants, including Pleasant Point in Mexico, NY, as well as their restaurant on Salina Street in Syracuse’s old Italian neighborhood. Those early years helped shape a lifelong connection to the restaurant business, and it was a natural fit for Stephanie to go on to work in many establishments as a restaurant and bar manager.
Throughout her life, Stephanie was never afraid to learn something new or take on a new challenge. After working for Stone & Webster, she went on to work for the Painters Local Union before returning to school to study computer programming. While continuing her education, she also studied Italian, embracing the language and heritage that were such an important part of her family’s roots.
Stephanie had a warm, fun-loving personality that made her easy to love and a joy to be around. She had a lifelong love of music and especially loved to sing. Whether there was music playing, a song to be sung, or a reason to celebrate, Stephanie had a way of bringing energy to the room and was often the life of the party. Her favorite toast was usually made with a nice glass of wine.
She played softball for the Woodshed for many years and loved spending time outdoors tending to her garden, where she could happily spend an entire day. She also enjoyed crafting and loved Christmastime most of all. Her Christmas decorations were famously all pink, creating a festive and uniquely Stephanie celebration each year.
Above all, Stephanie treasured her family and the time she spent with those she loved. She especially enjoyed playing Yahtzee with her grandchildren, creating the simple, happy moments that would become cherished memories.
Stephanie is survived by her loving children, Kristin (Brent) Hannock and Patrick Kostoroski; her grandchildren, Jacob Hannock, Michael Kostoroski, and Emma Kostoroski; her sister, Maria Mezzatesta Conzone; her nieces, Lori Britschge and Jennifer Saltalamachia; her nephew, Stephen Conzone; her honorary daughter, Jorin Aldrich; and her great-nieces and great-nephews, Stephen, Sara, Joseph, Ryan, Maria, Justyce, and Bryce.
She was predeceased by her parents, Stephen and Rose Mezzatesta.
