Thomas Raymond Galloway

Thomas Raymond Galloway, 92 of Oswego, New York, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on January 12, 2024.

He was born in Oswego on April 2nd, 1931 to James R. Galloway and Catherine (Bracken) Galloway. His family also consisted of his brothers James R. (Dick), who just recently passed away, and Robert (Bob) and Sisters Patricia, and Margaret-Ann (Nan) Galloway, and several nieces and nephews.

Tom attended St. Mary’s Grade School, and Oswego High School, where he was involved in the sports of football, boxing, and volleyball. He later joined the Army Airborne Unit and became a Squad Leader in the Infantry in Korea & Japan. Tom was wounded in Korea and his Sgt. was killed by a deserter who was trying to kill 3 other Soldiers. While disarmed, and wounded, Tom eventually captured the deserter. Tom was decorated with the Soldier’s Medal for Heroism, by General Westmoreland, and the NYS Conspicuous Service Cross by Gov. Patacki.

After leaving the Airborne, Tom met and married Bridget N. Mahunik. He then attended SUNY Oswego, earning a degree in Industrial Arts, “Technology.” He taught for 10 years, before leaving to become a Real Estate Broker/Land Developer. He developed over 40 new homes in several areas of Oswego. At the same time, Tom was appointed as the Chief Tax Assessor, by Mayor Lazarek, and served under 6 different Mayor’s, retiring in 1989.

Tom is survived by his loving family, Thomas D. Galloway of Delaware (Les), William (Elaine) Galloway and Deborah B. (Shawn) Samson, of Oswego, and grandchildren Ryan Galloway of Oswego and Brandan Galloway of Rochester, NY.

Tom & Bridget were married for 26 years. Bridget & Son (David) are deceased.

In respecting Toms wishes, there will be no calling hours. Services will be held privately, and his burial will take place at St. Peter Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Tom’s memory to St. Jude’s Hospital for Children.
