OSWEGO – Timothy J. Somers, 78, of Oswego Town, passed away on December 24, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late Edward and Mary (Barker) Somers.
Tim graduated from Hannibal High School in 1965. A proud and decorated veteran, Tim was drafted into the United States Army and served with bravery during the Vietnam War. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart, an honor reflecting his sacrifice and dedication to his country. Following his service, he worked at Alcan for 35 years, retiring in 2003. Tim loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, fishing, and playing golf. He also loved playing cards with friends and family and truly cherished the time he spent enjoying the winter months in Florida. As a dedicated race fan, he enjoyed attending many NASCAR events. He adored his wife and family and especially loved spending time and making memories with his grandchildren and grandpups. Tim was also very active in the Hannibal American Legion, Post #1552, often donating his time and resources to other Post members and events. Tim was also a lifetime member of the Oswego Elks Lodge #271.
Tim is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Sandra (Hall) Somers, and children Mary Crofoot (Rodney), Marla Duffy (Tug), and Mark Somers (Jessica), his brothers, William Somers (Terri) and Worden Somers, sisters, Irene Pritchard, Patricia Pritchard, Jane Kingsley, Virginia Flack (Bob), and Sandra Fox, and his grandchildren Jessica Miller (Chad), Samantha Crofoot (Justin Kobus), Shannon Langley (Shannon), Dylan Duffy, James Somers, Riley Somers, Harley Somers, and Olive Somers, as well as 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Tim was preceded in death by siblings Carl Somers, Leo Somers, Paul “Butch” Somers, Richard Somers, Violet Pritchard, Margaret Griffin, Helen Kelly, Marjorie Glerum, and Lillian Frye.
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, January 2, from 3-6 pm with Military Honors to follow, at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 West Albany Street.
