OSWEGO, NY – Barbara A. Donahue, 78, a resident of Smith Beach, Oswego, passed away Friday October 24, 2014, at her home.

Born in Oswego, she was the daughter of the late Freeman and Gertrude (Archer) Dirk.

She retired from the city of Oswego where she worked as a laborer for the Department of Public Works.

For her dedication for her decades of service to the Port City, she was recognized by having a road near the fort named after her.

Barbara previously worked at Armstrong and Marathon.

She served as a Second Ward councilor for four terms from 2000-2007.

She was a member of the local American Legion, V.F.W. and the Fulton Elks.

Surviving are her son, John (Karen) Donahue of Oswego; two brothers, Robert (Carla) Dirk of Henderson, Nev., and Charles (Joanne) Dirk of Norwell, Mass.; two granddaughters, Kathryn and Nichole Donahue; two great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Evelyn Luther; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Donahue; her brothers, James and David Dirk; and close friend, Norma Wallace.

Calling hours will be held 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Nelson Funeral Home, 11 W. Albany St. Oswego.

Private burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
