Craig S. ‘Homer’ VanAuken, 65

PHOENIX, NY – Craig S. “Homer” VanAuken, 65, of Phoenix, passed away on Monday August 12, 2013.

He was born in Oswego, NY, to his late parents, Shirley W. (Davies) and Franklin VanAuken on Nov. 14, 1947.

Homer was a 1965 graduate of the J. C. Birldlebough High School, Phoenix.

He was a switch man for Windstream, Fulton, NY, with 32 years of service.

Homer was an avid sportsman, hunting and fishing.

He belonged to the Copper Lake Club and Brantingham Camp.

Golfing and bowling he also enjoyed, as well as a  social member at the Phoenix Memorial Post 5540 VFW, and the American Legion Post 418, Phoenix.

He was predeceased by his infant daughter, Elizabeth Ann VanAuken, in 1982.

Surviving are his loving wife of 19 years, Donna (Gardner) VanAuken; his four step-children, Julie Griffin, Scott and (Linda) Griffin, Travis and (Stephanie) Griffin, and Richelle and (Donald) Hunt; his step-grandchildren, Aidan, Casey, Kelly, Donja, Connor, Griffin, Ethan and Mattie; his brother, David A. and (Sunny) VanAuken; two nieces, Tricia A. VanAuken and Janine M. and (Paul) Sabo; one grandnephew, Dylan Sabo; one grandniece, Emily Sabo; the Davies, Jones, and Handler cousins; and many close friends.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, 431 Main St., Phoenix.

The funeral service will be on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Terry Millbyer officiating.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
