OSWEGO, NY – Donald F. Scharf, 69, a resident of Oswego, passed away Friday July 26, 2013, at Upstate Hospital in Syracuse.
Born in Oswego, he was the son of Lawrence and Bessie (Leblanc) Scharf.
Donald was a US Navy veteran.
He retired as a bus driver for the Oswego City School District and had previously worked for Nestles and ITT Grinnell.
He was an active communicant of St. Peter’s Church.
He enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Surviving are his sons, Stephen (Trish) and Joseph (Lorrie) Scharf of Oswego; daughter, Dawn (Walter) Knopp of Sterling; his brother, Ricky Scharf of Oswego; eight grandchildren, Justin, Bryant, Christopher, Carrie Boatman, Lindsay and Adam Scharf, and Taylor and Chloe Knopp; two great-granddaughters, Abby Lynn Scharf and Aliea Bell Scharf; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Susan, in 2005; son, Gerald Scharf; brothers, Pete and Billy; sisters, Patricia Scharf, Marie Bateman and Shirley McCarthy.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at St. Peter’s Church.
Entombment will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.
Arrangements are in charge of the Nelson Funeral Home, Oswego.
