Harold D. Sharkey, 82, of Oswego, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2010 at Upstate Medical Center after a brief illness, surrounded by his family.
He was born January 15, 1928 to the late Hazel Greenwood Sharkey and Charles Sharkey. He attended Oswego Schools. He was a veteran of the US Army.
Harold was a 24 year retiree from Alcan. He was a member of the Oswego Center United Methodist Church, Elks and the American Legion Post 268.
He enjoyed hunting, gardening, sports and spending time with his family.
Harold is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy (Bush) Sharkey; sons, David (Tammy) Sharkey of Mexico; Scott (Linda) Sharkey of Oswego; daughters, Diane Sharkey of Amsterdam; Judy (Chip) Parr of Youngsville, NC; Sandra Sharkey of Oswego; grandchildren, Amy Gerth, Shannon (Brian) McManus, Bobby Jones, Michelle (Shad) Shatraw, Skip (Bernadette) Parr, Greg (Leslie) Parr, Brian Sharkey, Heather Sharkey, Trey Love, Isaiah Love; sisters, Edith Powers and Ella Cooper; brothers, Marshall (Esther) Sharkey, Charles (Carrie Mae) Sharkey, Earl (Barbara) Sharkey; sister-in-law, Jane Sharkey and 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, George, Lloyd, Glenn and Robert Sharkey.
Funeral Services will be held 10a.m. Tuesday at the Nelson Funeral Home. Burial will be held privately at Oswego Town Rural Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held 4-7p.m. Monday at the funeral home, 11 West Albany St. Oswego.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Oswego Center Methodist Church, in honor of Harold, 977 Co Rt. 20 Oswego.
