Homer F. Bowman, 85

Homer F. Bowman, 85, of Phoenix, NY, passed away at Oswego Hospital on Tuesday.

Born in Phoenix to his late parents, Homer F. and Pearl M. (Prashaw) Bowman on July 17, 1925. Homer was a graduate of Phoenix High, later served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a home builder with Bowman and Sons; later a fire coordinator for Oswego County; and then a realtor for Chetney Realstate, Oswego, NY. A communicant of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Phoenix, Former chief and life member of the Enterprise Fire Company, an accomplished saxophonist musician played with the Jack Ziel dance band.

Pre-deceased by his first wife, Mayfred M. (Clark) Bowman Nov. 5, 1976; his second wife, Eugenia I. (Dunlap) on June 5, 2001; his sister, Ova M. Reed on July 26, 2002; and his brother Robert C. Bowman on January 9, 2010.

Surviving are his three sons, Stephen (Barbara) Bowman of Scottsville, NY, William Bowman of Tampa, FL, Jeffrey Bowman of Long Beach, CA; a daughter, Cyndia (Tim) Donovan of Oswego, a step-son, David Maxwell; step-daughters, Suzanne Gemmill, Kathleen Askew, and Collen Maxwell; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins.

Services are Saturday at 8:45 a.m. at the Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, and then a mass of Christian burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Stephen’s Church, 469 Main St., Phoenix, with the Rev. Father Philip Brockmyre officiating. Burial with fire fighter and military honors in Phoenix Rural Cemetery, 126 Chestnut St., Phoenix, NY 13135. Calling hours are on Friday, 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home 431 Main St.
