James M. Sherman, 80

OSWEGO, NY – James M. Sherman, 80, and a resident of West Fifth Street Road in the town of Oswego passed away Sunday January 27, 2013, at home surrounded by his family.

Mr. Sherman was born in Oswego and was the son of the late James and Mildred Watts Sherman.

He served in the US Army from 1952-54 and was stationed in Washington, DC assigned to the ASA unit.

After his honorable discharge from the Army, James went to work for the Oswego County Laboratory, retiring after 24 years.

He then was employed by the New York Power Authority’s James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power plant.
He retired as a maintenance supervisor in 1987.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Millie (Ackerley) Sherman; two sons, James Bradley (Peggy) Sherman of Oswego and Charles (Cheryl) Sherman, St. Joseph, Mo.; three daughters, Karen Bishop (Jack Crouse), Jodi (Cliff) Larkin and Kimberly (George) Benton; one sister, Margaret (David) Wadsworth; and his “other daughter,” Dr. Padma Ram all of Oswego; 12 grandchildren, Aric (Erica) Arnold of Denver, Colo., Jessica Sherman of St. Joseph, Mo., Matthew Benton, James Larkin both of Oswego, Jeremy Sherman of St. Joseph, Mo., Bryan Benton, Will Sawtell, Lindsey Larkin, Libby Sherman all of Oswego, Gabby Sherman and Max Sherman both of St. Joseph, Mo. and Brenna Sherman of Oswego; two great-grandchildren, Ella L. Arnold and Aric P. Arnold both of Denver, Colo.

Mr. Sherman was predeceased by two brothers, Richard and Peter Sherman; and a sister, Mary Ellen Lucas.

Funeral services will be Friday at 7 p.m. at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home.

Calling hours will be 4-7 p.m. prior to the service.
