John E. "Jack" Barrie

John E. “Jack” Barrie was born on September 13, 1927 in Smiths Falls, Ontario, Canada, where he was raised.

As a young man he worked at different occupations as a lumber jack, truck driver, and a manager of a mink farm. Moving to CNY area in 1950, he followed his dream becoming an American citizen.

A devoted family man, Jack was involved with his children’s activities as they grew up, serving as a Boy Scout leader as well. He loved working with his hands to create things for family and friends. In his free time he would help create tools that may help co-workers to maximize time and efficiency.

Jack retired from General Electric in 1988. He was a real people person, John will be truly missed by his family and friends.

Predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Marilyn Virginia (Growe) Barrie; his son Michael E. Barrie; his parents Charles and Lena (Seward) Barrie; his brothers, Charles and Donald Barrie.

Surviving are his children and their spouses, John L. and Sevrine Barrie, Brenda A. and James Carissimi, Kathleen M. Barrie; grandchildren Christopher and Lisa Barrie, Andrew Barrie, Charina Carissimi, Michelle and Greg Dugan, James Carissimi (Jodie Brewster) and Laurel Carissimi; great grandchildren, Aryanna, Keara and Isabella Dugan; special children, Brandon and Mariah Wheeler, and Barrett Coller; brother Wilbert and Ruth Barrie, sisters, Emma and A. J. Desjardine, and Essie Barrie; several nieces, nephews, cousins.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm this Sunday at the Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, 431 Main St., Phoenix, NY. Services be on Monday Nov. 8, at 11 am in the First United Church of Fulton, 33 South Third St., Fulton, NY 13069, with the Rev. David Nethercroft officiating. Burial in Jacksonville Cemetery, Lysander.
