OSWEGO, NY – John Howard McPherson, 78, of Oswego, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday November 30, 2012.
Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, he was the son of the late Laura (Cutler) and Edwin McPherson.
He is a veteran of the US Army, having served in the Korean War.
He graduated from Erie Community College and was the owner of Port City Optical in Oswego.
He was involved in the community as a member of the Knights of Columbus, an officer and coach for the Oswego Minor Hockey Association and member and past president of the Oswego Lion’s Club.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Geraldine (MacDonald) McPherson; his children, John (Ronitta) McPherson of Apalachin, NY, Susan (Andrew) Lasnicki of Hastings, NY, Deborah (Bert) Petrie and Mark (Kim) McPherson of Oswego, NY, and Kimberly (Lee) Willdridge of Framingham, Mass.
Also surviving are his grandchildren, Laura (Michael) Valentino, Erica, Andrew and Stephanie Lasnicki, Michaela and Sarah Petrie, Adam and Allison McPherson, and Avery, Cameron, and Addison Willdridge; three sisters, Mary Laura Raynor of North Carolina, Margaret Dwyer of New York, Dorothy Driscoll of Illinois; and brother, William McPherson of Arizona; 13 nieces and nephews; 12 grand-nieces and grand-nephews; and one great-grand-niece.
John was predeceased by his grandson, Nicholas McPherson.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 W. Albany St., Oswego.
Funeral services will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, 50 E. Mohawk St., Oswego.
