Joseph D. Toscano, 76, son of the late Vincent and Lena Toscano, passed away July 15, 2011, at Oswego Hospital.
He resided at 75 E. 10th Street, which was formerly a family-owned grocery store for many years.
Joe attended Oswego schools, graduating from New York Military Academy, Cornwall-on-the-Hudson N.Y. class of 1953.
He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, member 18th Bomb Wing SAC, 813 Air Base Squadron, 1954-1957, flying B-29’s, then conversion to the B-47, stationed at Pinecastle AFB, Orlando, Fla. Active duty included stand by Reserve from 1957-1962 as A/1C. In 1956 he served in North Africa Jet Base Sidi Slimane.
After the service, during the 70’s and 80’s he opened the Razor’s Edge, a well-known barber styling shop and continued his profession until his retirement.
He was predeceased by a brother, Vincent Toscano, in 2005, and a cousin, Camille, in 2007.
Surviving are cousins in NY and NJ; nephews, Vincent M. and Jeffrey; and his friend, Jane.
Funeral services will be held 9am Friday at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 W. Albany St., Oswego. Burial will be in Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY, with full military honors.
