Michael V. Lynne, 70

OSWEGO, NY – Michael V. Lynne, devoted father, husband and retired Oswego High School art teacher, died unexpectedly on Thursday February 5, 2015, at the age of 70.

Born October 2, 1944, in Rochester, NY, he was an only child to the late Earl and Lorraine Lynne.

Michael is survived by his loving family: his wife (and pal), Evelyn; his son, Christopher; his daughter, Elissa, her husband, Patrick Simpson, and their daughter, Aria.

Michael was first and foremost a family man, devoting his life to raising his children with the grace and wisdom that only a lifelong teacher could.

After earning his Bachelor of Fine Arts and his Master’s in Education from the Rochester Institute of Technology, Michael went on to teach art for more than 40 years in New York State.

Twenty-five of those years were at Oswego High School, where he made a lasting impression on every student he taught.

He also completed his Certificate of Administrative Studies at SUNY Oswego and most recently worked for their Education Department, observing and evaluating student teachers.

An accomplished painter and guitar player, Michael dedicated his time to mastering his arts and his talents were recognized both locally and nationally.

He was also an avid outdoorsman and sailor, held a captain’s license, was an instructor trainer for US Sail, and taught sailing for many years at the Oswego Maritime Foundation and Cape Cod Sea Camps.

Michael never ceased to amaze his family with his unending knowledge, humor and love and he will be missed by scores of loved ones near and far.

His life will be celebrated at a private family memorial in Oswego.

In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to an art scholarship established in his name, which will be given to an Oswego High School student planning to pursue a degree in the fine arts.

Please make checks payable to the Michael V. Lynne Memorial Scholarship for Fine Arts and send to the Oswego City School District, attention John Edwards, 120 E. First St., Oswego, NY 13126.
