Raymond Gary Truax, 76

PHOENIX, NY – Raymond Gary Truax, 76, of Phoenix, passed away at Crouse Hospital, Syracuse, after a brief illness on Tuesday Dec. 22, 2015.

He was born in Addison, NY, to his late parents, June (Casey) Truax and Raymond W. Truax, on Feb. 15, 1939.

He was a graduate of Jamesville-Dewitt High School.

He was an active reservist in the Army National Guard, from 1956-57, and then became one of the few and proud by joining the US Marine Corps, serving from 1957-60.

Ray was a machinist for the Carrier Corporation, Syracuse, for 30 years, retiring in 1999.

He was a member of the Local 58 Sheet Metal Workers Union, Syracuse, NY.

Ray was a fine woodworker, he also sharpened saws for people, tied fishing fly lures, an accordion player, and taught himself how to crochet, a man of many talents and skills.

Ray was a Harley Davidson motorcycle rider.

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 39 years, Janet B. (Vincent) Truax, on February 5, 2001.

Surviving are his three daughters, Patricia Reitz of Baldwinsville, Kelly and son-in- law, Wayne Presby, of Phoenix and Katherine and son-in-law, David Spurchise of Baldwinsville; five grandchildren, Craig, Chelsea, Timothy, Jeffrey and Nicholas; five great-grandchildren, Riley, Savannah, Damian, Layla and Jeffrey; two brothers and sister-in-laws, Terry and Debbie Truax of Pompey and W. Ernest and Norma Truax of Danville, Ill.; nieces and nephews; and many friends; his beloved Jack Russell terrier, Abigail.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday in the Allanson-
Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, 431 Main St., Phoenix.

Services will be at  11 a.m. on Thursday in the funeral home, with the Rev. Philip Brockmyre officiating.

Burial in Phoenix Rural Cemetery, 126 Chestnut St., Phoenix.
