Robert W. Rock, 88

OSWEGO, NY – Robert W. Rock, 88, of Oswego, passed away Sunday June 22, 2014, in Oswego Hospital.

He was born in New Britain, Conn., and was the son of the late Clarence F. and Olga Litke Rock.

He received B.S. and M. Ed degrees from Springfield (Mass.) College and a Doctor of Education from Teachers College, Columbia University.

Dr. Rock retired from SUNY Oswego as Professor of Physical Education in 1981.

He served as Dean of Students/ Vice President for Student Affairs from 1963 to 1978.

Later, he was Professor of Counseling at C.W. Post College of Long Island University.

During World War II, he served as a radio operator on the light cruiser USS Amsterdam. He was in Tokyo Bay on VJ Day.

Among his non-professional affiliations: life member of National Ski Patrol, Professional Ski Instructors of America-XC, member Anglers Club of NY and Theodore Gordon Fly Fishers and enthusiastic participant in the Project Healing Waters fly fishing program at Fort Drum.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley (Gray) Rock of Oswego; one daughter, Robbin Killian of Fayetteville, NC; and his son, John G. Rock (Teresa Gonske, Ph.D.) of Arden Hills, Minn.

Funeral services will be private.

There are no calling hours.
