Shirley R. Harrington, 84

OSWEGO, NY – Shirley R. Harrington, 84, a resident of 112 W. Schuyler St., passed away Wednesday April 14, 2010, at Oswego Hospital.

Mrs. Harrington was born in Aberdeen, Md., the daughter of the late Arthur and Leah (Davis) Vandish.

She had lived in Oswego for many years.

She was the wife of the late Thomas F. Harrington, who died in 1972.

She attended high school in Charleston, SC, where she was valedictorian of her graduating class.

Prior to retirement, Mrs. Harrington had been employed, for 17 years, at the Harr-Wood Nursing home in Oswego.

She had formerly worked as a telephone operator.

She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers.

She loved to crochet and was an avid New York Mets fan.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Harrington of Oswego; a sister, Mary Vandish of Oswego; two grandchildren, Kelly Harrington (Fabian) Salinas of Liverpool and Thomas (Jennifer) Harrington of Boalsburg, Pa.; three great-grandchildren, Brisa Salinas, Michael Salinas and Liliana Salinas; a daughter-in-law, Jean Files of Williamsport, Pa.; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat, Skyler.

She was predeceased by a son, Van T. Harrington; and a sister, Betty Rhoades.

Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Rural Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home, 112 E. Second St., Oswego.
