OSWEGO, NY – St. John, Mary (Nan) Nannette (Mc Carthy), 75, a resident of Cayuga Street, Oswego, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Thursday January 22, 2015, after a courageous battle against cancer.

Born on May 13, 1939, in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the only daughter of the late Raymond McCarthy and Helen (Budd) McCarthy.

She moved to Oswego at 4 years of age and grew up there.

She graduated from Oswego Catholic High School in 1957.

She went on to graduate from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Syracuse in 1960.

She married her childhood friend on February 17, 1962.

She worked at Oswego Hospital, where she was friend, advisor, sister, mother and role model to so many of Oswego’s finest nurses, nurse aides and staff.

In 1999, after serving on the building committee, she became the first director of nursing at Seneca Hill Manor.

She was an active member of St. Paul’s Church and participated in its choir for many years.

Surviving is her loving husband, John Robert (Bob) St. John.

She will be missed by her children: John, David (Kerri), Mark (Jill) and Michael (Margaret); and by her wonderful grandchildren: Matthew, Alexander, Patrick and Shaelyn.

Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, Oswego.

Her funeral service will be celebrated on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, 50 E. Mohawk St.
