OSWEGO, NY – Stanley C. Thomas Jr., 84, of Oswego, passed away on Monday July 16, 2012.
Born in York, Pa., on February 15, 1928, the son of Stanley Sr. and Julia (Moritz) Thomas, Stan had lived in Oswego since 1942.
Stan joined the U.S. Navy after high school and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
After the war, Stan attended college at the University of Rochester, NY, and worked for the New York Telephone Company from 1948 until his retirement in 1988.
Stan was preceded in death by both parents; his brother, Ralph (Yvonne); two daughters, Sandra Thomas and Catherine Wood; and a grandson, Stephen G. Thomas.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Cleo (Ladd) Thomas; and children, David Thomas (Dianne), Robert Thomas (Mary), and Patricia Drance (Michael).
Stan was the proud grandfather of 10 grandchildren, Emlyn, Eleri and Elayne Thomas, Andrea (Thomas) Rincon, Christine Thomas, Derek and Myles Drance and Rachel, Ryan and Riley Wood.
The family of Stan Thomas requests that donations be considered for the “Stephen G. Thomas Memorial Fund” for childhood cancer research and sent to 118 Kessler Lane, Fayetteville, NY, 13066.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at Faith United Church.
Burial will be held in Mexico Village Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Nelson Funeral Home, 11 W. Albany St., Oswego.
