Tamara (Tammy Carroll) Chawgo-Dix

OSWEGO, NY – Tamara (Tammy Carroll) Chawgo-Dix, of 78 Factory Road, Palermo, wife of Michael Dix, born Sept. 16, 1958, went to be with the lord on Wednesday August 29, 2012, after a courageous battle with a brain tumor, surrounded by her loving family and friends.

She was a graduate of Oswego High School class of 1976 and Oswego County Health Occupations Medical Assistant Program.

She worked for Oswego Hospital in the Radiology Department for many years as a Medical Transcriptionist.

She recently worked at JC Penney in Oswego.

Tammy had a huge zest for life and the biggest smile!

She was always ready to drop anything and help the next person or animal.

She was a loving and caring mother and wife who her family, children (and her animals) were her life.

She loved to travel with her husband, always seeking out the next “antique” shop.

She loved gardening and playing in the dirt, planting all kinds of flowers.

She also loved doing stained glass and playing her piano.

She was a member of the Palermo United Methodist Church and a past member of Palermo Fire Department.

She was also a member of the ABC (All Bassets Cherished) rescue.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Dix; father and stepmother, Larry and Brenda Carroll of Auburn; in-laws. Bob and Sharon Dix; children, Ashley (Shib) Kostoroski, New Haven, Brandon Kostoroski, Oswego, and Austin Chawgo, Palermo, a 11th grade student at Mexico High School.

She is also survived by three brothers, Michael (Kathy) Carroll, Oswego, Jeffrey (Holly) Carroll, Pompano Beach, Fla., and Scott Carroll, Brooklyn, NY; nieces and nephews Michelle (Ryan) Carr, Michael, Tyler, Ryan, and Emily Carroll.

Also surviving are three step-children, Jon Dix, Kayleigh Dix, and Justin Dix; three step-grandchildren; and her loving dogs, Sophie and Garth.

She is also survived by her best friends, Rhonda Hollenbeck, Linda Stephenson, the Tom Gunn family, all her co-workers at JC Penney; and many, many others.

She was predeceased by her mother and stepfather, Shearid and Carrol (Bellinger) Haney.

A memorial service will be held 6 p.m. Saturday at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Marks officiating.

Calling hours will be 4-6 p.m. prior to the service.
