Alfred Stancampiano

OSWEGO – Alfred Stancampiano, 94, of Oswego passed away Saturday, January 20, 2024, in the Sodus Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Stancampiano was born in Oswego the son of the late Peter and Marion (Zaia) Stancampiano. He retired from the United States Postal Service. Al along with his brother Martin owned Stancampiano Muck Farm in Oswego. He served in the United States Army from 1954 until 1956, and the reserves from 1956 until 1962. He was a member of St. Paul’s Church that became Christ the Good Shepherd. Al was an avid hunter and enjoyed working day to night on the family farm with his brother and best friend Martin that brought about many humorous adventures and escapades. Al enjoyed to travel and took the family on yearly trips to see many parts of the US while attending various postal conventions. He also took his children and then grandchildren on trips to Italy and Sicily to meet family and see the country. He was a proud, unselfish and supportive family man attending his children and grandchildren’s recitals, sporting events, concerts, and he especially loved seeing the comradery and happiness at family gatherings.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Mary (Fichera) Stancampiano of Oswego and their children Marie (Mark) Mirizio of Cicero, Catherine (William) Chapla of PA, and John Stancampiano of Oswego; his grandchildren Joseph Mirizio, Alissa Mirizio, Anthony (Nicole) Mirizio, Nicholas Mirizio, and Sarah Chapla; his brother Martin Stancampiano of Oswego, sister Josephine McClimans of Schenectady, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Thursday 10:00 in Christ the Good Shepherd. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 6:00 at the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home, 147 W. 4th. St Oswego.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Alfred’s name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Christ the Good Shepherd Parish.
