Arthur “Artie” P. McManus, 81, a lifelong resident of Oswego died Wednesday, January 29, 2025, surrounded by family at his nephew’s home.
Artie was born in Oswego the son of the late George and Leona (Terrian) McManus. He worked and retired from the Hammermill, Oswego as a forklift operator. Artie was interested and researched all things Oswego. This hobby gained him great knowledge of the history of the City of Oswego, which he was always willing to share. Artie’s continued interest in Oswego was shown when he was seen walking around the city taking photographs and admiring the beauty in the architectural structure of all the old buildings. Artie’s photos were displayed in many local stores and shops, so his passion could be shared with others. He was also a collector of Oswego memorabilia. He had a true love for his home city.
Mr. McManus is survived by his children: Donna McManus of TN, Brian McManus of Oswego and his very special friend Jeannie Germain of Oswego. He is also survived by his grandchildren Anthony Politzi, Angela Politzi–Mills, Caden McManus, Ean McManus, his great grandchildren Sylvie Lynn, and Harrison, and his siblings George (Peggy) McManus of FL, Margaret “Peggy” Gambino of Syracuse, and several nieces and nephews.
Artie was predeceased by his siblings: Charles McManus, Robert McManus, Donald McManus, Norman McManus, Edward McManus, Elizabeth Flood, and Jeanne McManus.
In accordance with Artie’s wishes there will be a private Celebration of Life at a later date.
The arrangements are in the care of the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home 147 W. 4th St., Oswego.
The family request donations be made in Artie’s name to Hospice of CNY.
