OSWEGO, NY – Bernadine “Bernie” Fragale, a resident of James Square, Syracuse, NY, since April 23, 2007, died peacefully at St. Joseph Hospital in Syracuse Sunday December 9, 2012, after a brief illness.
Bernie was born in Rome, NY, on December 23, 1919, but spent much of her youth in Altmar, NY, until she married her husband, Michael Fragale, February 11, 1939, in Oswego, where she lived for many years.
She spent many years of her life working hard on their small self-sustaining farm in Oswego.
Bernie was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and a very devoted Catholic.
Bernie was predeceased by her husband, Michael, on November 3, 2001; and her son, Joseph, on July 2, 1960.
Bernie is survived by her sons, Michael J. (Tracy) Fragale of New Mexico and Christopher G. (Annette) Fragale of Oswego; daughters, Theresa J. (Robert) Domachowski of Liverpool, Mary Lenz of Liverpool and Anne (John) Filk of East Aurora; 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Hollis (Marilyn) Mellen of Oswego and Harlow Mellon of Radisson; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, Oswego, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Oswego.
Calling hours will be Thursday 4 –7 p.m. at the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home, 147 W. Fourth St., Oswego.
The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital, especially the dedicated and caring staff in the Palliative Unit, as well as the caring staff at James Square Nursing Home.
