OSWEGO – David J. MacLean, 69, of Scriba died Friday February 6, 2026 at home after a sudden attack.

Dave was born in Oswego the son of Catherine MacLean of Scriba, and the late John H. MacLean. He was a member of the IBEW Local # 97, and worked as an electrician for the NY Power Authority and Entergy where he retired from after 35 years of service. Dave was a member of and secretary for Friends of Fort Ontario, where he would take part in all their reenactments. He specialized in woodworking and would take the time to research and make the necessary props, to be realistic for the era, he was also a prop maker for CNY Arts, Fulton. Dave felt it was necessary for it to be realistic for the visitors or people watching the shows, so as a spectator you felt like you were part of the time, being portrayed. Dave and his brother Todd would do the Lantern Shows which would dazzle and wow the viewers at the beautiful sites across the night skies. He was always doing something to keep himself busy, Dave did not like sitting around.

Dave will be forever loved and missed by his wife Melanie MacLean of Scriba, and his children Tammy (Joshua) Moser of Warwick, James MacLean of TX, stepchildren Jeffrey (Shantelle) Schulz of TX, and Michael (Amanda) Schulz of TX. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren Claire, Caitlin, Caroline, Leizel, Joe, Sophia, Alex, Annie, and his siblings Todd MacLean of Scriba, and Kimberly Westcott of Oswego, and several nieces and nephews.
