OSWEGO It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gayle Marie Davis, 66, of Oswego, taken far too early on September 10th, 2025, after a struggle with ALS.
Born in Fulton, NY to the late Frederick Grandjean and Patricia Grandjean Bailey, Gayle was a graduate of Hannibal High School, and later Onondaga Community College. After leaving the Nestlé Credit Union to be a full-time mother, she later returned to the workforce and was employed for over 20 years at Dufore’s Jewelers.
Happily married to Michael Davis since 1981, Gayle moved to Oswego, where she raised her family and was a long-time member of St. Stephen’s Church. She was an active member of the Kingsford Park Home and School Association, and was engaged in anything her daughters pursued. Along with taking exceptional care of her family and home, Gayle also had a rich life of her own pursuing many interests including being an avid reader, a golden age of Hollywood film buff, and an exceptionally talented artist; excelling at painting, knitting, cross stitch and quilting. She loved going to knit nights, quilt guild and other social activities. She set a wonderful example for her daughters, guiding them towards well rounded, full lives like she enjoyed, sprinkled with both good humor and graceful strength. She enjoyed dining out and always shocked her husband with how many people she knew, and would enjoy running into around town. Later in life, she was passionate about volunteering her time to Blessings in a Backpack. The family would like to thank Nancy, Annie and all of the ladies at Tut’s Hair Pyramid for taking such good care of her, and keeping her spirits up in her last few months when her illness made managing her hair too difficult.
Along with her husband Michael, she is survived by her two heartbroken daughters, Lisa (Will) Lentlie of Worcester, MA and Amy (Dan Cheron) Davis of Brampton, ON, as well as her two treasured grandchildren, Allison and Paul Cheron. She will also be missed by her sisters, Linda Moore of Camden, NY, Janice Howard of Lebanon, TN, and herbrother, Patrick (Rose) Bailey of Andover, NY, sisters- in– law Lori Bailey and Jean Cavalier (Fred) of Fulton NY, and many aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind several wonderful, loving friends.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Phillip Bailey and a sister, Mary Powell, as well as a beloved Aunt, Frances Herron.
Services for Gayle will be Tuesday 1:00 PM at the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home, Oswego. Calling hours will be Monday from 4:00 to 6:00 at the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home, 147 W. 4th St Oswego. Burial will be private at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fulton.
