OSWEGO – With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Geraldine Rita Jones (Spicer) on 3/28/2024.
Gerri as her friends called her is survived by three daughters, Brenda Bracy, Jodie Soranno and Traci Rabideau and one son Wesley Jones. Grandchildren include Frank Soranno, Nicole Soranno, Anthony Soranno Alex Soranno, Mark Dawson, Jennifer Dawson, Bobbi-Jean Dawson, Wesley Jones, Christie Jones and Rachael Rabideau. Great grandchildren include Cynthia Lytle, Liam Dawson, Maddox Dawson, Dillon Hoefer, Athena Portelious, Jackson Soranno, Frank Soranno. Gerri was one of 23 children and was predeceased by her mother Alice Ruth Spicer in May 1984 and her father Willard Muriel Spicer in October 1951. Also predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Leonard, Robert, Betty, James, Charles, Charlotte, Mary, Harold, Donald, Beverly, Milton, Mildred, Kenneth, Gerald, Patricia, Barbara, Kevin, Karen, Paul, Pauline and Janet. The lone survivor is Marlene.
She often reminisced about growing up in a small house near Oak Hill Park and the long lines for meals. Large pots and pans seen only in commercial kitchens were used to prepare the meal for 24, it had to be a sight to behold. She was a dedicated mother whom worked hard to support her family including waitressing, bartending and kitchen work at SUNY Oswego.
Gerri was the life of the party and enjoyed life to its fullest. She truly enjoyed wearing and bringing props wherever she went and brought joy to those around her. Family reunions were held at Humphrey’s Hideaway and Scriba Town Park, the entire park, and was a sea of people as everybody came to these events back in those days. She is now in heaven with an empty bottle in her hand singing her favorite song entertaining all of the other angels.
