Joseph Pecora, 92

OSWEGO, NY – Joseph Pecora, 92, a lifelong resident of Utica Street, Oswego, NY, died Friday November 14, 2014, in Bishop Commons, Oswego.

He was born in Oswego, the son of the late F. Daniel and Carmela Pecora.

Mr. Pecora worked at Alcan in Scriba as a crane operator and office scheduler before his retirement.

He served in the United States Army in China, Burma and India during World War II.

Mr. Pecora was a life member of the Knights of Columbus #227, Oswego, the Elks #271, Oswego and the VFW Post 2320, Oswego.

He was an avid bowler and held the position as secretary and treasurer of the Oswego Bowling Association.

He was inducted into the Oswego Bowling Hall of Fame.

Mr. Pecora enjoyed Syracuse University sports where he and his brother, Anthony, held SU Football tickets for more than 45 years.

He was also inducted into the Oswego Softball Hall of Fame.

He was a Little League coach where he coached the Local #214 team in its inaugural season of Little League in Oswego in 1955.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Pecora was predeceased by his brothers, Daniel Pecora Jr., Anthony Pecora and Philip Pecora; and sisters, Nellie Cafalone and Frances Pecora.

Mr. Pecora is survived by his sister-in-law, Theresa Pecora of Oswego; nieces and nephews, Richard (Sally) Cafalone, Phyllis (Dan) Masuicca, Dan (Kathy) Pecora, Dennis (Dana) Pecora, Janet Spiwak and Dorothy (Floyd) Alpher; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday 8:30 a.m. from the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home and 9 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, 147 W. Fourth St., Oswego.
