OSWEGO – Nancy Perticone, 86, of Oswego Town died peacefully at home, surrounded by family on August 29, 2024.
Mrs. Perticone was born in Aurora, Illinois, the daughter of the late Otto and Gabrielle (Mestrez) Hummer. After completing high school in Downers Grove Illinois, Nancy and her brother Ned made news by being the first sister and brother twins to enlist together into the US army. She served from 1955 until 1957. While stationed in Texas, she met Eugene, who would be her husband of 65 years. Nancy moved to Oswego, NY in 1969 where she raised her four children as well as many cats and dogs. She also offered great support to many friends and acquaintances over the years. Nancy was an energetic volunteer with many local organizations. Over 20 years, Nancy dedicated thousands of hours to AARP tax prep assistance for the elderly as a tax aide and technology coordinator. Her efforts were recognized with the President’s Volunteer Service Award and the AARP Tax Aid Fellow Award. Nancy volunteered at The Red Cross assisting with disaster relief and blood drives. She also participated with Meals on Wheels and helped deliver mail to Oswego Hospital inpatients. In addition, she served as the manager of her husband’s private psychology practice. Nancy was well known for her kindness, personal resilience, direct nature. Some of her other talents included a great singing voice which could be heard in St. Joseph’s Church choir and a green thumb that produced beautiful, greatly admired flower gardens. For many years she enjoyed spending time with her husband and family at their camp on Lake Bonaparte. In recent years, she regularly followed the lives of her family members through the frequent updates of photos and videos they supplied to her.
Mrs. Perticone was predeceased by her husband Eugene Perticone in 2023, and their daughter Monique Perticone in 2022.
She is survived by her children Lance (Paula) Perticone of Texarkana TX, Tracy (Scott) Buckingham of Manlius, Guy Marcel Perticone of Oswego, brothers Ned and Robert Hummer, sister Sue Sinna, as well as five grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her siblings George Hummer, Mary Wakefield, Virginia Hummer, and Richard Hummer.
Entombment will be in All Saints Mausoleum.
The arrangements are in the care of the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home 147 W 4th St Oswego.
Services will be private.
