Norma Joan Foran, 91

FULTON, NY – Norma Joan (Wimbiscus) Foran passed away Thursday March 5, 2015, in Oswego, NY.

She was born in Buffalo, NY, on August 21, 1923.

Norma completed North Tonawanda High School in 1941, Erie Community College in 1980 and graduated (Cum Laude) from SUNY at Buffalo in 1986 with a degree in Gerontology.

She was past employed by the Internal Revenue Service in Hartford, Conn., from 1942-1943.

She transferred to the Buffalo office and worked from 1944-1946.

Norma was best known at Sweet Home Senior High School as the premier guidance secretary from 1965-1986.

Friends and family were important to Norma.

She loved to host and entertain; and frequently had dinner parties at her home and later her apartment.

She enjoyed playing contract bridge and was a member of several bridge clubs with lifelong friendships.

Norma also enjoyed knitting, reading and gardening.

She loved knitting presents for her great grandchildren and had a true “green thumb” in making things grow.

Norma traveled extensively to Germany, Switzerland, and Bermuda all while enjoying the sights and sounds of distant and foreign lands.

She also traveled widely in America to Texas, Washington D.C., North Carolina, Florida and Arizona visiting friends and relatives.

She enjoyed all these experiences and frequently shared them with her children and grandchildren.

Norma even went on an airborne towed glider plane later in life, much to the amazement of her family.

Norma was a beloved wife of the late Charles W. Foran; mother of Patricia (Dennis) MacVittie and Timothy R. (Janet) Foran.

She was a loving grandmother of Suzanne Summerville, Erin Greco and Julie Foran Marshall.

She enjoyed being “GG” (great-grandmother) to Nathan and Ian Summerville and Owen and Nadia Greco.

Her optimism and “go for it” attitude with her granddaughters, her compassion for gay couples and her love of education will be missed by all.

Services will be conducted privately.

Burial will be held in Elmlawn Cemetery, Kenmore, NY.
