FULTON, NY – Rita C. Lavaway, 59, of Fulton, passed away peacefully on Thursday May 24, 2018, at the Veterans’ Administration Hospital, Syracuse, after a short illness.
She was born in Watertown, NY, to the late Robert and Jean (Yates) Gorgen.
Rita had been a resident of Fulton for 30 years.
She was past employed with Nestles, Co., Fulton.
Rita was a member of the Fulton Polish Home Ladies Auxiliary.
She was predeceased by her husband, Jack Lavaway, in 2017.
Rita is survived by her four children: Mandy Vieni of Fulton, John Scholoeder of North Carolina, Nicole Halsey of Fulton and Corey Halsey of Fulton; two siblings: David Yates of Schuylerville, NY, and Lyda Yates of Missouri; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A calling hour will be held Friday, June 8, from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Sugar Funeral Home, Inc., 224 W. Second St. S., Fulton, with funeral service to follow at 6 p.m.
internment will be held Monday, June 11, 2018 at 10 a.m. in Bath National Cemetery with military honors bestowed by the Corning American Legion Honor Guard.
