Rocco P. Fortino, 93

OSWEGO, NY – Rocco P. Fortino, 93, of Oswego, died Saturday morning October 20, 2012, at his home with his family at his side.

Mr. Fortino was born in Phillipsburg, NJ, the son of the late Dominic and Mary (LoCarro) Fortino.

Mr. Fortino was a former employee of Stone and Webster, and Niagara Mohawk.

He was a longtime member of the IBEW where he was the recording secretary.

He was an active volunteer for RSVP and the American Cancer Society.

He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church where he was an altar server for funeral masses and he enjoyed working at St. Mary’s bazaar.

He was a former member of the Dante Alighieri, sons of Italy.

Mr. Fortino enjoyed being outdoors in his garden.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1944 until 1946.

He was predeceased by his wife, Grace Fortino, in 2004; and his sisters, Grace Iudicello and Maggie Corona.

Mr. Fortino is survived by his children, Francis (Nancy Talanian) Fortino of Massachusetts, Anne Marie (Gary) Rubin of Lake George and Mary Jean (Michael) Church of Oswego; his brother Joseph Fortino of New Jersey; and grandchildren, Michael and Christopher Church, and Melody and Patrick Rubin.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday 9 a.m. from the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home, Oswego, and 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary the Assumption Church, Oswego.

Burial will be St. Peter’s Cemetery, Oswego.

Calling hours will be Tuesday 4 – 6 p.m. at the funeral home, 147 W. Fourth St., Oswego.
