Gary Parrish

1937 – 2021

CLINTON – Gary C. Parrish, 83, of Clinton, NY, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2021.
Gary was born on August 10, 1937 in Akron, OH, the son of H. Clark and Marjorie Parrish. He grew up in Akron, but enjoyed spending his early years visiting his extended family in West Virginia. Through the years because of his work, he lived in many places, including raising his family in Fulton, NY, before moving to North Haven, CT and Westlake, OH, and finally retiring in Clinton, NY. He was a hard worker even in retirement where he took pleasure in working at Jay-K Lumber.
Never one to sit down for very long, he was a prolific woodworker and one of the first things he did in a new home was to setup his workshop. You could find him there listening to country music, or another favorite pastime, baseball games. His love of baseball was well known by his friends and rotisserie baseball competitors. It’s a love he passed along to his children. His competitive spirit was “appreciated” by his opponents in games of backgammon, dominoes and board games. He had a fondness for the outdoors, which included fishing, hiking, camping and bird watching. He helped build one of the nesting boxes for downtown Utica’s peregrine falcons.
Gary was preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Diane (Doyle) and his two brothers, David and John. He is survived by his children Mark (Nicole), Michael (Sue Anne) and Julie (Scot), his grandchildren Ryan, Jack and Lucie, many nephews and their families, and his favorite sister-in-law, Emily.
Due to COVID restrictions, funeral services will not be held at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Utica Peregrine Falcons (big-green.net/falcon) or since Gary was an avid reader to the Kirkland Town Library in Clinton.
Arrangements are entrusted to R.P. Heintz Funeral Service, Inc., 10 East Park Row, Clinton. Online memorial available at www.rpheintzfsi.com.
