George E. Smith, 54

OSWEGO, NY – George E. Smith, 54, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, at his residence, 204 E. Ninth St. in Oswego, following a hard-fought battle with cancer.

He was born in Schenectady and was the son of the late Geraldine Smith and Jack Fredrick.

George was employed at Novelis as an electrical technician.

George was a brilliant man who enjoyed tinkering with computers, playing guitar and watching the NY Giants play ball.

He is survived by his wife, Carla Garand Smith; his beloved Donna M. Pitsley; three daughters, Tracy Smith Roach, Jacqueline (Joseph) Skillen and Amy (Dennis) Place; two sons, George (Kristin) Smith Jr. and Frank A. Capozzi all of Oswego; eight brothers, Ronald Cassibo, Stanley Cassibo, Richard Cassibo, Robbie Cassibo, Patrick Cassibo, Gregory Cassibo all of Ontario, Canada, Mike Fredrick and Jack Fredrick both of Ogdensburg; three sisters, Marion Cassibo, Diane Cassibo both of Ontario, Canada, and Denise Gagnon of Ogdensburg; 11 grandchildren, James Roach, Joseph Skillen Jr., Madison Roach, Katelyn Place, George Smith III, Annmarie Place, Michael Smith, Leah Capozzi, Joshua Favata, Sara Place and Jackson Skillen; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was predeceased by a son, Michael Smith, who died Jan. 17, 2001.

Funeral services will be Saturday 10 a.m. in Elim Grace Church with Rev. Bill King officiating.

Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Friday 4-8 p.m. at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home.
