Gerald E. Sweeney, 88

Gerald E. Sweeney, 88 and a former resident of 5726 State Route 104 in the Town of Scriba died Friday morning at the home of his nephew Timothy Sweeney. Mr. Sweeney was born in Oswego and was the son of the late Mary H. (Kane) Sweeney.

Mr. Sweeney served in the 843rd Signal Service Battalion, US Army, during WWII and was stationed on the Alaskan Highway.

He had been employed as a Credit Correspondent and Analyst with the ARCO Company for 28 years, retiring in 1980.

Mr. Sweeney graduated from Most Holy Rosary High School in Syracuse and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from Syracuse University. He was a Communicant of St. Paul’s Church.

Mr. Sweeney is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother Bernard Sweeney who died in 1987.

Funeral services will be Thursday 9:30 AM from the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home and at 10:00AM in St. Paul’s Church. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
