Gloria K. Comerford, 86, 08/12/2009

OSWEGO, NY – Gloria K. Comerford, 86, a resident of 226 W. Third St., passed away on Wednesday Aug. 12, 2009, at Oswego Hospital.

Born in Oswego, she was the daughter of the late James and Alice (D’Amico) Niger and was a graduate of Kingsford Park School and Oswego High School.

Although small in stature, Mrs. Comerford was very mighty in will, which will surely be missed by all who knew her.

She was employed by Browne Davis Furniture and the Downey Coal Company, as well as being the bookkeeper for the family business, J.R. Comerford and Son.

She enjoyed spending summers at their beloved family cottage at Henderson Harbor, cooking, shopping, gardening and reading.

She was known throughout her family for her delicious meatballs with raisins.

Surviving are her husband of 62 years, John “Jack” Comerford; and the proud matriarch to her children, John (Ann) Comerford and Patricia (Ernest) Mears both of Oswego and Marcia (William) Benwitz of Rochester.

She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Jennifer (Billy) Braswell, Kelly (Brian) Greene, Katie and Jackie Comerford, Lindsay and Megan Benwitz, Heather (Lonnie) Williams and Ashley, Morgan and Jonathan Mears; seven great-grandchildren; her cousin, Katherine Teseriero; and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Frank and James Niger and an infant brother, Francisco Niger; a sister, Ida Grassi; and a daughter-in-law, Peggy Comerford.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. from St. Joseph’s Church.

Entombment will be in All Saints’ Mausoleum.

Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Friday from 5-8 p.m.

The family requests that any contributions may be made to either the Oswego Public Library or Oswego Hospital.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Carmen Dator, the wonderful team of caregivers and the fourth floor staff at Oswego Hospital, all of whom provided excellent and loving care for Mrs. Comerford.
