James A. Burger, 90, 09/29/2009

OSWEGO, NY – James A. Burger, 90, a resident of 44 Lake St., Oswego, died Tuesday morning Sept. 29, 2009, in Oswego Hospital.

He was born in Oswego and was the son of the late Frank and Josephine Anderson Burger.

Mr. Burger was the husband of the late Laura J. Smith Burger, who died Sept. 23, 2004.

As a young man, he was a resident of St. Francis Home.

Mr. Burger had been a self-employed contractor in the Oswego area for many years.

He served in the Civilian Conservation Corp and built many of the buildings in Selkirk State Park.

Mr. Burger served in the US Army during World War II.

In his leisure time, he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.

He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church.

Mr. Burger is survived by four daughters, Lauretta (Tim) Allen of Oswego, Mary Katherine (Earl) Swartz of Harrisburg, Pa., Frances (Beryl) Broadwell of Scriba and Tina (Stephen) Flack of Oswego; two sons, John (Sharon) Burger of Oswego and Richard (Julie) Burger of Oswego; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife he was predeceased by two children, James A. Burger and James G. “Cricket” Burger; three siblings, Joseph, Robert and Loretta.

Funeral services will be Friday 10:30 a.m. from the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home and at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Thursday 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
