Joan E. Poor, 78, a resident of 84 East Sixth St. Oswego, passed away September 8, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse.

Born in Oswego, she was the daughter of the late John and Marjorie (Newstead) MacDonald.

She loved spending time with her family, grandchildren, and friends.
She enjoyed knitting, playing cards, and spending summers at her camp at Sunset Bay.

She was employed in the Civil Division at the Oswego County Sheriff’s Department.

Joan was also a member of the Oswego Silver Star Assoc. and the Telephone Company Pioneers.

Joan will be forever remembered for her positive outlook, and great sense of humor. She was always good for a laugh, and a story to tell. She will be sadly missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.

Surviving are two daughters, Cindy (Richard) Gurney of Oswego and Michele (Danny Dehm) Poor-Dehm of Baldwinsville; two sons, Daniel and Jeffrey Poor, both of Oswego; a brother Jack (Kaye) MacDonald of Florida; seven grandchildren, Justin (Susan) Gurney, Jamie Gurney, Jeffrey Poor, Andrea Poor, Michaelene Poor, Devin Poor, and Marjorie Dehm. She was also survived by a close cousin, Shirley Newstead, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Carl E. Poor, and her daughter-in-law, Ann Poor.

Calling hours will be held 4-7p.m. Friday at the Nelson Funeral Home, 11 West Albany St. Oswego.

Graveside services will be held 10a.m. Saturday at the New Haven Cemetery, with Rev. Steven Eddy officiating.
