OSWEGO, NY – John W. Richardson, 81, a resident of 32 Tallman St. in Oswego died Monday evening Aug. 11, 2008, in Oswego Hospital.

Mr. Richardson was born in Oswego and was the son of the late Wayne and Anna Regan Richardson.

He served in the US Navy during World War II and in the US Army during the Korean War.

Following active duty, Mr. Richardson was a member of the United States Navel Reserve.

Mr. Richardson received his BS and MS degree from SUNY Oswego and had been employed for many years as a teacher at the Palmyra-Macedon High School in Palmyra, NY.

He was the husband of the late Helen Hopkins Richardson who died in 1994.

Mr. Richardson was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church and a former communicant of St. John’s Church.

He was a member of VFW Post 5885, American Legion Post 268, New York State United Teachers, New York State Militia and a former member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Oswego.

Mr. Richardson taught classes for many years at the Oswego Navel Reserve.

He is survived by one daughter, Maureen (Terence) Pyfrom of Palmyra; one son John W. (Mary) Richardson Jr. of Port Jefferson Station, L.I., NY; one sister, Patricia Haak of Ontario, NY; two grandsons, Terence Pyfrom and Bryan Richardson; and one granddaughter, Seana Gupta.

He was predeceased by a brother, Wayne Richardson.

Funeral services will be held Friday 10 a.m. from the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home and at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
