Leonard A. Spaziani, of Fulton, died Sunday, January 10, 2010 surrounded by family at the age of 80 after a long illness.

Born in Cortland, NY, he was the son of the late Augusto and Maria (DiRuscio) Spaziani. Mr. Spaziani attended Cortland schools and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954. He graduated from SUNY Cortland with a BS degree in Physical Education and Recreation Management and was the Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Fulton from 1967 until his retirement in 1991. Mr. Spaziani was predeceased by a daughter, Holly Otis in 2001 as well as four sisters, Anna Yacone, Gilda Spaziani, Rose Pannozzo and Irma English.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Marie Lilly Spaziani; children, Lenette (James) Laboda of Fulton, Teresa Lilly (Carlton Hewings) of Rochester, Kathleen Leavens of Fulton, Mary Beth Lilly of Cicero, Charles Lilly of Syracuse, Mark Lilly of Fulton and Christopher Lilly of Oswego; son-in-law, Michael Otis of Fulton; 11 grandchildren and three great-granddaughters.

Funeral services will be held 9 a.m. Thursday at Foster Funeral Home, Fulton. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, 910 Fay Street, Fulton.

The family wishes to acknowledge the compassionate care of the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center, especially the staff of the Medical Intensive Care Unit.
