M. Carol McLaughlin, 86, 10/05/2008

OSWEGO, NY – M. Carol McLaughlin, 86, a resident of Simeon-DeWitt Apartments, and a former resident of 35 Hawley Street, died on Oct. 5, 2008, at Oswego Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Oswego, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Danaher) McLaughlin.

She was a graduate of St. John’s School and Oswego High School.

She received her Bachelor’s Degree from the State University College at Oswego, and a Master’s Degree from New York University.

Carol taught in DeWitt, Oswego, and then Long Island, retiring in 1978.

She served on the board at the YMCA, and the Alumni Board at Oswego State.

Carol was also very active in the Oswego community.

She was a volunteer for St. Mary’s Church, Loretto Heights, Safe Haven, and RSVP.

She was a volunteer for the Red Cross, and was selected as Volunteer of the year in 2001.

Carol was a member of the Oswego County Retired Teachers Association.

She enjoyed swimming and golfing, and was always an avid reader.

She is survived by her sister, Rosemary “Buddie” Murray of Oswego; four nieces and four nephews among whom are Patsy, Mark, Michael, and Brad Murray.

She was predeceased by her sister, Kathryn McLaughlin Manilla.

A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. from St. Mary’s Church.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

There are no calling hours.
