OSWEGO, NY – Margaret V. Rookey, 76, a resident of 131 W. First St., St. Luke Apartments, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday Aug. 22, 2009, at University Hospital in Syracuse, surrounded by her family.
Born in Oswego, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Dorothy (Perau) Lanphear and was a lifelong resident.
Mrs. Rookey was a homemaker and the family matriarch who enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by three daughters, Bonnie (David) Schwalm of Baldwinsville, Theresa (Salvatore) Casale of Liverpool and Jodi (Donald) Sinclair of Oswego; four sons, Leo (Faye) Rookey Jr. of South Dakota, Larry (Sandra) Rookey, Gary (Annlyn) Rookey and Brian Rookey all of Oswego; a brother, Frank Lanphear of Fulton; three sisters, Fay Blainey of Camillus, Jeanie Gasowski of Marsellus and Diann Lagoe of Oswego; a son-in-law, Malachi Reardon; 19 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Leo Rookey; her daughter, Susan Reardon; an infant son, Donald E. Rookey; and a brother, Lee Lanphear.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. from the Dowdle Funeral Home.
Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., prior to the services.
