Marie (McTiernan) Taverni, 84, 05/25/2008

LITTLE FALLS, NY – Mrs. Marie (McTiernan) Taverni, 84, of Church Street, Little Falls, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, May 25, 2008, in Valley Health Services, Herkimer.

She was born in Little Falls on April 8, 1924, daughter of the late Francis and Agnes (Rogers) McTiernan and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy.

On June 22, 1946 she was united in marriage with Ugo A. Taverni in St. Mary’s Church, Little Falls; a union of 61 years until the passing of Mr. Taverni on Sept. 9, 2007.

She was last employed at Little Falls High School in the cafeteria, retiring in 1965.

Marie was devoted to the Catholic faith and a communicant of Holy Family Parish and also the Rosary Society.

Mrs. Taverni was a kind and loving woman putting the needs of her husband, children and grandchildren before her own.

She found pleasure being surrounded by her beloved family and preparing meals for them to enjoy.

A gentle and caring soul, she touched the lives of many and will be sadly missed by all those who knew her.

Survivors include her loving family: two sons, Anthony “Tony” Taverni and wife Linda of Chestertown, NY, and Edward Taverni and wife Diane of Oswego; two daughters, Maria Burton and husband Douglas of Mohawk and Joan Dunn and husband Bill of Yaphank, NY; a sister-in-law: Eleanor McTiernan; a brother-in-law, Bernard “Mims” Taverni and wife Angela of Little Falls; eight cherished grandchildren, Matthew and Elisa Taverni, Christopher, Thomas, and James Burton, Margaret, Laura and Anne Taverni; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her husband, Ugo, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Francis McTiernan and Bill McTiernan.

The family will be present in the Enea Family Funeral Home 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls on Tuesday, May 27, to receive relatives and friends from 5-8 p.m.

Mrs. Taverni’s funeral will commence at 10:15 am on May 28 from the chapel of the Enea Family Funeral Home and at 11 a.m. from Holy Family Parish, corner of East Main and John streets, Little Falls, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Reverend Anthony Ligato, pastor.

The Rosary Society will form an honor guard at the funeral mass.

Procession will follow to St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Herkimer, where she will be laid to rest.
