Maurice G. Dopp, 87

OSWEGO, NY – Maurice George Dopp, 87, was born March 29, 1922, in Fair Haven, NY.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1941, serving until 1947 aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Saratoga and the attack transport U.S.S. Shelby in the South Pacific during World War II.

He was an electrician by trade and enjoyed fishing, bowling, crossword puzzles and traveling.

He died Dec. 2, 2009, in Gainesville, Ga.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Hazel (nee Bailey) of Flowery Branch, Ga.; brother, Harry of Long Island, NY; and four children, David Sr. (Diana) of San Antonio, Texas, Linda (Edgar Sr.) of Oakwood, Ga., and Deborah Krewson and Susan (James Jr.) Seymour, both of Flowery Branch, Ga.

Other survivors include grandchildren, David Dopp Jr., Denelle Miller, Darien Dopp, and Brian Dopp, Paula Nocera, Amanda Gillot, and Edgar Gillot Jr., Thomas, Kyle, and Tanna Krewson, and Jennifer, Christopher, and Tyler Corby.
Several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren also survive.

Maurice was preceded in death by his parents, Netta (nee Wilkinson) and Harry B. Dopp; brothers, Melvin and David Dopp; and grandson, Eric Dopp.

Calling hours will be held in Oswego on Dec. 7 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home, with a funeral service immediately afterward.

Spring burial will be in rural Cemetery.

A memorial service will follow in Georgia at a time and location to be announced.
