Norien M. Sweeney, 67, 08/14/2008

OSWEGO, NY – Norien M. Sweeney, 67, a resident of 18 E. Fourth St., died unexpectedly at her home on August 14, 2008.

Born in Oswego, she was a daughter of the Eileen Esford, with whom she resided, and the late Harold Farley.

She was a graduate of Oswego High School.

She was also a graduate of the B.O.C.E.S. Nursing Program where she earned a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse and was valedictorian of her class.

She had been employed as a nurse at various local nursing homes and prior to that had been a waitress for several places in Oswego.

Mrs. Sweeney was a member of the Oswego Moose Club and was a life member of the V.F.W. #2320 Auxiliary where she also had served as president.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in the Lake City Victoria Chapter #205 as well as the Elizabeth Chapter #105 in Fulton.

Positions held by her as a member of the O.E.S. include Grand Marshall of New York State in 1999, District Deputy in 2006 and Secretary for the Oswego Chapter for 11 years.

Surviving besides her mother are three sons, William (Susan ) Hunter of Rochester, Rick (Cherie) Hunter and Scott Hunter both of Oswego; two daughters, Deborah (William) Bradley of Mississippi and Laurie Vincent of Florida; two sisters, Barbara (Jack) Labrose and Gearldine (Robert) Weber both of Oswego; a brother, Ronald Myers of Central Square; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Diane Guy, in 1999; her first husband, William Hunter, in 1979; and her second husband, Sheldon Sweeney, in 1996.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. from the Dowdle Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Oswego Town Rural Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4-7 p.m.
