OSWEGO, NY – Norris, D. Jones, 80, and a resident of 7285 State Route 104 in the town of Oswego, died Saturday morning Aug. 16, 2008, in Oswego Hospital.
He was born in Oswego and was the son of the late Walter and Eva Lathrop Jones.
Mr. Jones was the husband of Geraldine Scanlon Jones.
Mr. Jones was a graduate of Clarkson University where he received his degree in Electrical Engineering. He owned and operated J & M Power Systems in Oswego providing engineering services to industrial and commercial customers throughout Central and Northern New York.
Mr. Jones was a founding principal in Sundance Energy Co. which partnered with Sithe Energies to construct many cogeneration power plants including Independence Station in Scriba.
Mr. Jones was an avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing, boating and snowmobiling.
He was a past member of the Oswego Minor Hockey Association Board of Directors and a former member of the Oswego Country Club, the Oswego Maritime Foundation and a past member of the board of directors of Springside at Seneca Hill.
He was a former member of Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America.
He served in the US Coast Guard during World War II.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Dr. Douglas A. (Diane) Jones and Patrick (Patricia) J. Jones both of Oswego; three sisters, Wilma (George) Jerrett of Mexico, Marjorie (Ross) Kosbob of Scriba, Janet Jerrett of North Carolina; five grandchildren, Scott (Hilary) Jones of Maryland, Matthew Jones of Denver, Daniel Jones of Washington, DC, Christopher Jones of Denver, Kaitlin Jones of Oswego; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.
Burial will be in Rural Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
