Ruth Pauline “Tootie” Stanford Sixberry, 72, of Watertown, died September 12, 2009, of lung disease at Samaritan Keep Home where she resided the last 17 years.

Ruth was born in Watertown on July 26, 1937, to the late Ethel Fenlong and Earl Stanford and attended Lafargeville Central Schools. She was a homemaker who loved Elvis, dancing, singing, cooking, going to church, helping others and being with friends and family. She was confined to a wheelchair for 18 years due to brain surgery and a stroke.

Ruth married Homer E. Sixberry, Sr. on October 26, 1968, in Volney and was predeceased by him on January 10, 1978. She was also predeceased by four brothers and three sisters.

Surviving are five children: Elizabeth (Kevin) Magovney of Adams, Homer (Brenda) Sixberry, Jr. of North Volney, David Sixberry of North Volney, Dorothia (Jack) Bennette of Whiteville, NC, Ruthia (John) Cornish of Fulton; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren with another great-grandchild due in December; three sisters, Helen Robinson of Syracuse, Deanna Evans of Rosenburg, TX, Kay Mack of Black River; two brothers, Edward Stanford of Williamsport, PA and Ambrose Stanford of Sunrise, FL; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints, 837 State Route 48, Fulton with burial at North Volney Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay Street, Fulton. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family c/o Ruthia Cornish, 505 Rathburn Road, Fulton, 13069.
