Thomas R. Galvin, 84, 05/17/2008

OSWEGO, NY – Thomas R. Galvin, 84, a resident of 198 E. Albany St., died on May 17, 2008, at St. Luke Health Services.

Born in Fort Orgelthorpe Ga., he was the son of the late John and Rema (Cooper) Galvin.

He was a graduate of the Oswego High School.

Mr. Galvin was a member of Ironworkers Local# 60 in Syracuse and had worked at various construction sites locally and throughout the country.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in the European Theater.

He was very active with the Oswego Little League, and was a former president of the Oswego Hot Stove Association, as well as being the manager of the Triplets.

He was also the head of the Umpires Association for several years.

He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed playing golf.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, the former Mary Davis; four daughters, Linda (Fred) Thompson and Donna (Gary) Broadwell both of Oswego, Joanne (John) Bieniek of Baldwinsville and Marcia (Jose) Alvarado of Oswego; four sons, Robert (Darlene) Galvin of Oswego, Thomas (MaryEllen) Galvin of Syracuse, James Galvin of California and Richard (Cindy) Galvin of Oswego; 16 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his brother, James Galvin.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. from St. Mary’s Church.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to the St. Mary’s Church.
