Thomas R. Strong, 88, 08/01/2009

OSWEGO, NY – Thomas R. Strong, 88, a resident of 1060 Middle Road, passed away on Aug. 1, 2009, at his home after a long illness.

Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late Thomas and Cora (Pullen) Strong and was a graduate of Oswego High School.

He worked on many local construction projects as a member of Boilermakers Local #175 for more than 40 years.

Mr. Strong was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army in the European Theater.

He was a life member of the Oswego Elks Lodge #271 and was a member of the American Legion #1532 in New Haven.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and visiting the casino, as well as being an avid New Yankees fan.

He was a great supporter of his son Patrick’s Car #99 supermodifed racing team.

Surviving are two daughters, Liz (Len) Lagoe and Linda Carta both of Oswego; five sons, Patrick (Terry) Strong of Oswego, Raymond Strong of Fulton, Bruce Strong of Mexico, Thomas (Marianne) Strong Jr. of Oswego and William Strong of Williamson NY; a sister, Madeline Timon of Melbourne, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Hazel; a son, Ronald; a brother, Robert; three sisters, Lorraine McArthur, Helen Harig and Betty Rix; and a great-grandson, Tristin Strong.

Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m.

Services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
