FULTON, NY – Oswego County Opportunities recently honored Joyce Farrell with the agency’s Howard Wilcox Volunteer of the Year Award.
Established in memory of a very special OCO volunteer, the Howard Wilcox Volunteer of the Year Award is presented annually to a volunteer that goes above and beyond in offering their time and talents to an OCO program.
For the past seven years Farrell has volunteered eight hours each week to OCO’s Nutrition Services program at Bernadette’s Bistro, the senior dining and activity center in Constantia.
“Joyce is an energetic, engaging lady with lots of enthusiasm,” said Deirdre McCarthy, manager of Bernadette’s Bistro. “Even if you’ve just met her, you feel like you’re talking with an old friend. Everyone loves her.”
Greeting everyone with a smile and a positive attitude, Farrell never fails to bring laughter to the Constantia Dining and Activity Center.
“Joyce consistently does nice things for others such as making mittens and hats for participants at our center. People are naturally drawn to her because of her good nature and willingness to help others. Joyce has demonstrated extraordinary support to OCO Nutrition Services and our Constantia Activity and Dining Center and is well deserving of the Howard Wilcox Award,” added McCarthy.
In addition to her volunteer duties at the Constantia Dining and Activity Center Farrell serves as the treasurer for the Constantia AARP Group and volunteers for the West Monroe Volunteer Fire Department’s Auxiliary.
